April and May
Spring flowers, mild weather and fewer crowds. Excellent for Paris, Italy and the Netherlands; some high-alpine lifts are still closed until late May or June.
June to August
The Indian school holidays meet European summer. Switzerland's mountains and lakes are at their best; Italy and Greece are hot and busy. Book early — family rooms go first.
September and October
Many travellers' favourite months: warm seas in Greece and Italy, harvest season, and quieter cities. Diwali trips often fall here.
November to March
Christmas markets, snow in the Alps, and cities without queues. Switzerland and Austria for snow; Paris and London for festive lights.
