Why Switzerland

Switzerland is the easiest place in Europe to travel beautifully with family: punctual trains, safe cities, clean lakes and mountain villages with no cars. We build journeys around two or three bases rather than a new hotel every night.

Plan a journey to Switzerland

Most visited places in Switzerland

The placesworth the journey.

  1. 01 · Mountain excursion

    Jungfraujoch

A cogwheel railway tunnels through the Eiger and Mönch to Europe's highest railway station, 3,454 metres above sea level. From the Sphinx terrace the Aletsch Glacier, the longest in the Alps, curves south for more than twenty kilometres, and on clear days the view reaches the Black Forest.

Our tip Ride the Eiger Express gondola up from Grindelwald on the earliest departure, as cloud tends to gather around the summit by early afternoon.

  2. 02 · Lakeside town

    Lucerne and Mount Pilatus

Lucerne's covered Chapel Bridge, painted gables and Lion Monument sit at the head of a fjord-like lake ringed by peaks. A paddle steamer to Alpnachstad connects with the world's steepest cogwheel railway up Pilatus, and Mount Titlis, with its revolving cable car and glacier, is under an hour away by road.

Our tip Walk the Musegg Wall in the late afternoon; its towers give the best elevated view of the old town and lake, and few visitors climb them.

  3. 03 · Alpine plateau

    Grindelwald First

A long gondola lifts you above Grindelwald to First, where a steel cliff walk hangs off the rock face beneath the Schreckhorn. An easy hour on foot leads to the Bachalpsee, a small lake whose still water mirrors the Bernese peaks, and the descent can be made on scooter-bikes or the First Flyer zip line.

Our tip Reach the Bachalpsee before nine, when the water is calmest and the reflection of the peaks is at its sharpest.

  4. 04 · Glacial valley

    Lauterbrunnen Valley

Sheer limestone walls rise almost a thousand metres on either side of this valley floor, and more than seventy waterfalls spill from them. Staubbach Falls drops beside the village church, while Trümmelbach Falls thunders inside the mountain itself, carrying meltwater from the Jungfrau through a series of lit corkscrew chambers.

Our tip Continue by cable car to the car-free village of Mürren for a quieter lunch with an unobstructed view of the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau.

  5. 05 · Mountain village

    Zermatt and the Matterhorn

Zermatt is reached only by train, and its lanes of dark larch chalets lead toward the Matterhorn's unmistakable pyramid. The Gornergrat railway climbs to a ridge facing twenty-nine summits above four thousand metres, while the Matterhorn Glacier Paradise cable car rises higher still, to an ice palace and year-round snow.

Our tip Stand on the Kirchbrücke bridge at dawn to watch first light turn the Matterhorn's summit from grey to rose gold.

  6. 06 · Lakeside Riviera

    Lake Geneva and Montreux

Palm trees and a lakeside promenade give Montreux an unexpectedly Mediterranean air, with the Dents du Midi rising across the water. Just along the shore, the Château de Chillon sits on a rocky islet, and to the west the terraced vineyards of Lavaux, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, fall steeply to the lake.

Our tip Arrive from Interlaken on the GoldenPass Express, which crosses the Bernese Oberland and Gruyère region without a change of train.

  2. Day02

Lucerne · Lake and Mount Pilatus

Board a morning boat across Lake Lucerne to Alpnachstad and ride the cogwheel railway to the summit of Pilatus. Return by gondola to Kriens, then spend the afternoon with a private guide in the old town and at the Lion Monument.

  3. Day03

Drive to Engelberg and ascend Titlis by rotating cable car to the glacier, ice cave and suspension bridge. Return to Lucerne by mid-afternoon, leaving time for watch and chocolate shopping before dinner.

  4. Day04

Interlaken · Across the Brünig Pass

  5. Day05

    Jungfraujoch · Top of Europe

Set out early for Grindelwald and the Eiger Express, connecting to the railway up to the Jungfraujoch. After the glacier views and the Ice Palace, descend via Kleine Scheidegg and Lauterbrunnen, stopping at Staubbach Falls on the way back.

  6. Day06

Where to stay in Switzerland

  • Lucerne

A graceful, walkable lakeside town with easy day trips to Pilatus and Titlis. Ideal for families and first-time visitors who want shopping, restaurants and calm evenings on the water.

  • Interlaken and Grindelwald

Interlaken is the practical hub of the Jungfrau region, while Grindelwald puts the Eiger directly outside your window. Grindelwald suits honeymooners and anyone who prefers quiet mountain mornings.

  • Zermatt

Car-free, polished and centred on the Matterhorn, with fine dining and ski-in chalets. Best for couples and VIP travellers wanting a secluded, high-alpine finale to the journey.

What to eat in Switzerland

  • Cheese fondue

Gruyère and vacherin melted with white wine and kirsch, shared from a single pot with bread and boiled potatoes. It is naturally vegetarian, though some alpine cheeses use animal rennet, so ask if this matters to you.

  • Raclette

A wheel of cheese is warmed and scraped onto plates of potatoes, gherkins and pickled onions. Mountain restaurants above Zermatt and Grindelwald serve it beside the open fire, and it is a comfortable vegetarian meal at altitude.

  • Älplermagronen

The herdsman's macaroni of the high pastures, baked with potatoes, cream and cheese and served with stewed apple. Ask for it without the fried onions and bacon lardons often scattered on top.

  • Swiss chocolate

Lucerne and Interlaken have chocolatiers where you can watch pralines being made and join a private tasting or workshop. Plain dark chocolate is often the simplest choice for Jain travellers, though it is worth checking ingredients for milk or additives.

Travel tips for Switzerland

Getting there from India

Direct flights connect Delhi and Zurich in around eight to nine hours. Within the country we usually travel by first-class rail, with luggage forwarded between hotels.

For travellers from India

Nonstop flights from Delhi to Zurich take about eight and a half hours, and Switzerland falls under the Schengen visa, which can be filed up to six months ahead and is best lodged six to eight weeks before a summer trip. Indian and vegetarian restaurants are easy to find in Interlaken and Lucerne, and Jain meals can usually be arranged with notice. Service is included in Swiss bills, so rounding up in francs is a polite gesture rather than an obligation.

Visas & entry

Indian passport holders need a visa for Switzerland (Schengen). Rules and processing times change, so we confirm the current requirements when you book, prepare the document checklist with you, and help schedule any appointments.

Good to know

Vegetarian food is easy to find; we can arrange Indian meals and Jain preferences in advance at most partner hotels. A Swiss Travel Pass often covers trains, boats and many mountain lifts.

Switzerland tour packages from Delhi

Every Switzerland holiday package we plan is private, and built around your dates, your pace and the people travelling with you.

Our Switzerland tour packages from Delhi and across India include return flights, hand-picked hotels with partner privileges where available, private transfers, guided sightseeing where it adds something, visa assistance and 24×7 support while you travel. A typical first visit takes in Jungfraujoch, Lucerne and Mount Pilatus, Grindelwald First, Lauterbrunnen Valley, over 7–10 days.

We plan Switzerland honeymoon packages, family holidays for children and grandparents, milestone celebrations and corporate or incentive trips, with vegetarian and Jain meals arranged in advance. Tell us what you have in mind and a travel designer will shape the itinerary with you.

June to September for summer holidays and mountain views; December to March for snow. May–June school holidays are ideal for families.

What is included in your Switzerland tour packages from Delhi?
