Why Thailand
Bangkok, the north around Chiang Mai, and islands from Phuket to Koh Samui: Thailand suits short breaks, family holidays and company incentive trips alike.
Plan a journey to ThailandMost visited places in Thailand
The placesworth the journey.
Grand Palace & Wat Pho, Bangkok
The Grand Palace gathers gilded spires, guardian statues and the revered Emerald Buddha within its white walls, once the seat of Thai kings. Next door, Wat Pho houses a reclining Buddha some forty-six metres long and is also the historic home of traditional Thai massage.
Our tip Arrive when the palace gates open, dressed with shoulders and knees covered, and visit Wat Pho afterwards while the palace crowds build.
Chao Phraya River & Wat Arun
Bangkok's great river carries ferries, long-tail boats and rice barges past temples, old warehouses and riverside homes. On the west bank, Wat Arun's porcelain-studded spire rises above the water and catches the light beautifully at the end of the day.
Our tip Take a private long-tail through the Thonburi canals in the late afternoon, ending opposite Wat Arun as the sun goes down.
Ayutthaya
For four centuries Ayutthaya was one of Asia's great cities, until it was sacked in 1767. Its ruined temples, brick prangs and the Buddha head entwined in tree roots at Wat Mahathat now form a UNESCO World Heritage park about ninety minutes north of Bangkok.
Our tip Explore by private car or bicycle in the early morning, as the ruins have little shade by midday.
Chiang Mai
The walled old city of Chiang Mai is home to more than a hundred temples, with Wat Phra That Doi Suthep looking down from the forested mountain above. Beyond the city lie ethical elephant sanctuaries, tea hills and craft villages.
Our tip Visit Doi Suthep at dawn to hear the monks chanting before the stairways fill.
Phang Nga Bay
Sheer limestone towers rise from the jade water between Phuket and Krabi, with sea caves and hongs, collapsed cave lagoons open to the sky, that can only be reached by canoe. The famous pinnacle at Khao Phing Kan is the bay's best-known sight.
Our tip Charter a private boat and head out early, reaching the hongs on a rising tide before the day trips arrive.
Phi Phi Islands
Steep jungle cliffs and clear water define the Phi Phi archipelago, reached by boat from Phuket or Krabi. Maya Bay on Phi Phi Leh reopened after a period of closure to allow the reef to recover, and visitors now view it from the shore only.
Our tip Leave at first light on a private speedboat to see Maya Bay before most boats arrive.
Thailand itinerary
Six days in Thailand
Three days of temples and river life in Bangkok and Ayutthaya, followed by the limestone coast of Krabi.
A starting point, not a package: we reshape the days around your dates, pace and who is travelling.
Shape this itinerary- Day01
Bangkok · Arrival
You are met at Suvarnabhumi and driven to your riverside hotel. In the evening, a private dinner cruise drifts past the illuminated temples along the Chao Phraya.
- Day02
Bangkok · Palace and canals
Start early at the Grand Palace and Wat Pho with a guide, then pause for lunch and rest through the heat. In the late afternoon, a long-tail boat explores the Thonburi canals and ends at Wat Arun.
- Day03
Ayutthaya · The old capital
Drive north for around ninety minutes to explore Ayutthaya's ruins in the cooler morning. Return to Bangkok for an evening in Chinatown's food streets or a quiet spa treatment.
- Day04
Krabi · To the coast
A short flight of around an hour and twenty minutes brings you to Krabi. Settle into your beachfront villa and watch the sun set behind the karsts of Railay or Ao Nang.
- Day05

Spend the day by private speedboat among the Hong Islands or out to Phi Phi, swimming and snorkelling in quiet coves. Return in the afternoon for time at leisure.

Where to stay in Thailand
Riverside, Bangkok
Hotels along the Chao Phraya combine calm with easy boat access to the old city. Suits families, couples and anyone who prefers views of the water over the city's traffic.
Krabi & Railay
Dramatic limestone scenery and quieter beaches, some reachable only by boat. A lovely setting for honeymooners and couples.
West coast of Phuket
Kamala, Surin and Pansea offer polished villas and smooth access to the airport. Works well for multi-generational families and celebrations.
What to eat in Thailand
Royal Thai cuisine
A refined style descended from the palace kitchens, with carefully balanced curries and intricately carved fruit and vegetables. Many Bangkok restaurants offer a full vegetarian tasting menu on request.
Yaowarat street food
Bangkok's Chinatown comes alive at night with stalls cooking noodles, dim sum and grilled seafood. A guided food walk helps you navigate the busiest stretches.
Jay vegetarian food
Thailand's Buddhist jay cuisine is vegan and avoids onion and garlic, which makes it a natural fit for many Jain travellers. Look for the yellow flags with red lettering that mark jay stalls and restaurants.
Mango sticky rice
Ripe mango with glutinous rice and sweetened coconut cream is Thailand's best-loved dessert, at its finest from March to June when mangoes are in season. It is naturally vegetarian.
