Why Singapore

Singapore is effortless with children: safe, green, spotless, with world-class zoos, gardens and food. It also works well paired with a few days in Bali or on a Malaysian island.

Plan a journey to Singapore

Most visited places in Singapore

The placesworth the journey.

  1. 01 · Waterfront

    Marina Bay

The modern face of Singapore wraps around the bay: the three towers and SkyPark of Marina Bay Sands, the durian-shaped Esplanade theatres and the Merlion spouting water at the river mouth. A waterfront promenade links them all and is lovely in the cooler evening air.

Our tip Watch the evening light and water show from the promenade by the Event Plaza rather than from the busier mall side.

  2. 02 · Gardens

    Gardens by the Bay

Two vast glass conservatories, the Flower Dome and the Cloud Forest with its indoor waterfall, sit beside the Supertree Grove, steel trees planted with ferns and orchids. The scale and engineering are remarkable, and the gardens are as rewarding for children as for keen gardeners.

Our tip Visit the Cloud Forest when it opens and return after dark for the Supertree light show from a bench on the grove's edge.

  3. 03 · Island resort

    Sentosa

Linked to the city by cable car, monorail and road, Sentosa gathers beaches, a large theme park, an oceanarium and beach clubs on one compact island. It makes for an easy, sociable day with children, with quieter stretches at Tanjong and Palawan beaches.

Our tip Arrive by cable car from Mount Faber in the late afternoon for views over the harbour as the sun sets.

  4. 04 · Wildlife parks

    Mandai Wildlife Reserve

In the north of the island, secondary rainforest and the Upper Seletar Reservoir surround the Singapore Zoo, River Wonders and Bird Paradise, each built around open, naturalistic enclosures rather than cages. The Night Safari, the world's first nocturnal zoo, is a quietly thrilling experience after dark.

Our tip Book the earliest Night Safari tram slot and arrive in time for an unhurried dinner beforehand.

  5. 05 · Heritage quarter

    Chinatown

Restored shophouses line streets of traditional medicine halls, tea merchants and lively hawker stalls. The quarter's mix of faiths is striking: the Buddha Tooth Relic Temple, the Sri Mariamman Temple and an early mosque all stand within a few minutes' walk of one another.

Our tip Climb to the rooftop garden of the Buddha Tooth Relic Temple, which most visitors overlook.

  6. 06 · Heritage quarters

    Little India & Kampong Glam

Little India is a riot of colour around Serangoon Road, with garland stalls, spice merchants and the ornate Sri Veeramakaliamman temple. A short walk away, Kampong Glam centres on the golden dome of Sultan Mosque, surrounded by textile shops and the independent boutiques of Haji Lane.

Our tip Come in the cooler late afternoon and stay on for an early dinner as the lights come up.

A relaxed city stay that balances Marina Bay and the gardens with heritage quarters, Sentosa and the Night Safari.

A starting point, not a package: we reshape the days around your dates, pace and who is travelling.

Shape this itinerary
  1. Day01

    Marina Bay · Arrival

Your driver meets you at Changi and brings you into the city in around twenty minutes. After settling in, walk the bay promenade at dusk and watch the evening light show over the water.

  2. Day02

Gardens by the Bay · The heritage quarters

Begin in the cool of the Cloud Forest and Flower Dome. After lunch, a private guide leads you through Chinatown's temples and shophouses, ending with dinner at a hawker centre.

  3. Day03

Sentosa · A day by the sea

Spend the day on Sentosa, choosing between the theme park, the aquarium or simply a cabana at the beach. Return by cable car to Mount Faber as the sun sets over the harbour.

  4. Day04

Little India · Mandai after dark

Explore Little India and Kampong Glam with a guide in the morning, with time for shopping and a banana-leaf lunch. Rest in the afternoon before an evening at the Night Safari.

  5. Day05

    Jewel Changi · Departure

Enjoy a gentle morning at leisure, perhaps in the Botanic Gardens. Reach the airport early enough to see the Rain Vortex inside Jewel Changi before your flight.

Where to stay in Singapore

  • Marina Bay

Skyline views, the waterfront and Gardens by the Bay on your doorstep. Ideal for first-time visitors, honeymooners and anyone who wants the city at its most iconic.

  • Orchard Road

Leafy, central and close to the best shopping and the Botanic Gardens. Works well for families and longer stays who prefer a calmer base.

  • Sentosa

Resort living with beaches, pools and attractions close by, only minutes from the city. A strong choice for families with younger children.

What to eat in Singapore

  • Hawker centres

Recognised by UNESCO as living heritage, Singapore's hawker centres serve chicken rice, laksa and satay under one roof. Most have dedicated vegetarian stalls, and many label their food clearly.

  • South Indian in Little India

Banana-leaf meals, dosas and filter coffee are served across Little India, with many purely vegetarian restaurants and several kitchens that can prepare Jain food without onion or garlic.

  • Chilli crab

Singapore's best-known dish, crab cooked in a sweet, spicy tomato and chilli sauce and mopped up with fried mantou buns. Best enjoyed at a seafood restaurant along the east coast.

  • Peranakan cuisine

The cooking of the Straits Chinese blends Chinese and Malay traditions in dishes such as ayam buah keluak and colourful kueh sweets. A good way to understand the island's mixed heritage.

Indian travellers apply for a visa through an authorised agent, usually a few working days but best arranged a month before, and vegetarian and Jain food is among the easiest to find anywhere outside India. Tipping is not expected since bills carry a service charge, and chewing gum and littering are strictly regulated.

Visas & entry

Indian passport holders need a visa for Singapore. Rules and processing times change, so we confirm the current requirements when you book, prepare the document checklist with you, and help schedule any appointments.
