Flights

Air India, ANA and JAL fly nonstop between Delhi and Tokyo, a flight of about eight and a half hours. Most services use Haneda, the airport closest to central Tokyo; JAL's daily flight uses Narita. From Mumbai, Air India flies nonstop to Haneda. We checked schedules on 6 October 2026 — timings change by season, so we confirm them when we book.

Visa

Indians need a visa and apply for a single-entry tourist eVisa through VFS Global. The visa fee for Indian nationals is ₹500 plus the VFS service charge, even after Japan raised fees for most countries in July 2026. Processing takes a minimum of three working days. Our full guide: Japan visa for Indians.

Getting around

The bullet train links Tokyo, Kyoto and Osaka in two to three hours. A nationwide Japan Rail Pass suits long routes (Tokyo to Hiroshima and back, say); for a Tokyo–Kyoto–Osaka trip, individual tickets or a regional pass are usually better value. Pass prices were reported to rise from October 2026 — we price both ways for your route.

In cities, use an IC card for metros, buses and convenience stores. Ordinary Suica and PASMO cards are on sale again since March 2025, and the Welcome Suica for visitors is sold at major airports. We arrange luggage forwarding so you travel between cities with a small bag.

Taxes and money

Japan's departure tax rose from ¥1,000 to ¥3,000 per person on 1 July 2026; it is included in your air ticket. Kyoto's hotel tax rose in March 2026 and now depends on the room rate — from ¥200 to ¥10,000 per person per night. We include both in our quotes.

From 1 November 2026, tax-free shopping becomes a refund: you pay the full price in the shop and claim the consumption tax back when you leave Japan, at customs. The minimum is still ¥5,000 per shop per day. Keep receipts and passport details together and allow time at the airport.

Arrival forms

Visit Japan Web (vjw.digital.go.jp) gives you a single QR code for immigration and customs. It is optional but saves time at the airport. Use only the official site.

How we help

We plan the route around your season and pace, book flights from Delhi, hotels and ryokans, trains and luggage forwarding, prepare your eVisa documents and arrange vegetarian or Jain meals. Tell us your dates and we send a day-by-day plan.
