It is situated at a height of 2740 m in Jammu and Kashmir. Sonmarg is a small hill station which is also called the “Meadow of Gold”. In the Spring time the meadow of Sonmarg gets draped by some golden flowers and hence it gets its name. As Sonmarg ends, the route towards the Ladakh starts because it is the last point in Kashmir valley before the Zoji La pass of Ladakh. While you drive through the pass the scenic beauty changes from the beautiful blooming greenery of Kashmir to barren dry landscape of Ladakh.
The cornucopian Sindh river which flows through Sonmarg is ideal for trout and mahseer fishing. The Krishnasar lake also gives you an opportunity for trout fishing there. There you can also enjoy the experience of trekking and hiking. It is a favourite place for the adventure lovers. If you want to do trekking or hiking get the permission from the tourist office of Srinagar or Sonmarg. Sonmarg tourism will check the safety and feasibility guidelines for these adventurous sports.
Sonamarg offers various attractive places to explore. Those which deserves mention here are Nilagrad, Nichnai Pass, Krishnasar Lake and Bisansar Lake. These are some of the places whose beauty will be captured in your mind forever.
